We are still collecting non-perishable thanksgiving foods for our Thanksgiving Food Drive through this Thursday. Remember, students who bring in donations will receive a raffle ticket and entered into the raffle for a new iPad.

This Thursday, November 15 at 5:30 pm is our next regularly scheduled Parent Advisory meeting. We hope to increase our membership and invite you to join this wonderful group of parents partnering with us to make HSHMC the best school in the universe. This Thursday they will be packing up all the Thanksgiving food donations for distribution and planning future events and activities to support our HSHMC students and families.

By now, you should have received progress grades for your students. If your child is carrying an incomplete from Q1, please remind them they must make a plan with their teacher and are expected to attend tutoring during lunch and after school until all incompletes are cleared.

It is open enrollment time at HSHMC, Inc. We are now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year for grades 8-12. This open enrollment period ends January 31, 2019. Siblings of current HSHMC students should submit their applications NOW! As a reminder, our current 8th grade students must also submit an application for 9th grade. Please go to our website at www.hshmc.org to apply directly online. And, if you know other families interested in applying, we appreciate you letting them know as well.

School will be closed next week, November 19 through November 23 for Thanksgiving Break. School will resume on Monday, November 26.

Given the Thanksgiving Break, our next Saturday School is not scheduled until Saturday, December 1, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please plan ahead now and be sure to send your child to Saturday School if they have missed a day of school. Students must stay the entire time to get credit for their absence.

Annual Food Drive

Our annual food drive is here! We will be collecting canned goods from 7:30am-8:05 am downstairs next to the bank. Students will be given a raffle ticket for every food item they bring. We will be having the raffle on Thursday, 11/15/18. The winning prize is an iPad! We hope you will join our effort and donate!

This Thursday, November 8, we are holding a financial aid and FAFSA workshop this for parents of our seniors that need hands-on help completing the financial aid process.

As a reminder, next Monday, November 12 school is closed for Veteran's Day.

ASB's annual Butter braid fundraiser ended today. Please be sure your child turned in their order form order form for these delicious butter braid pastries. The butter braids ordered will be delivered to HSHMC for pick up on Nov 15th, just in time to enjoy sharing these pastries during family gatherings, holidays, special occasions, or just because!

Our Thanksgiving Food Drive begins this week. We are looking forward to collecting non-perishable thanksgiving foods. Open enrollment time at HSHMC, Inc. begins this Thursday, November 1. We will be accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year for grades 8-12. This open enrollment period ends January 31, 2019. If the number of applications exceeds available spaces, a lottery will determine application selection. Siblings of current HSHMC students and children of Sharp HealthCare employees will be given priority in a lottery. Students will be notified of acceptance beginning in February. And, if you know other families interested in applying, we appreciate you letting them know as well.

Our first quarter ends this Friday, November 2. Please check in with your child to be sure they are not holding any incompletes. As a reminder, students who hold incompletes are required to attend our Friday Academic Recovery and Advancement sessions from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. First quarter progress reports will be mailed home late next week.

We are smiling……School pictures are this week! Grades 9-11 will be taken on Tuesday, October 23, and Grades 7-8 will be taken on Wednesday, October 24. Information on how to purchase school photos was sent home with your child last week.

We will be taking all our Middle School students on a field study to the King Tut Exhibit in Los Angeles this Thursday. Please note that students will not arrive back to HSMS until 6:00 pm. Please plan to pick up your child at that time.

ASB's annual Butter braid fundraiser is happening now! Students received an order form for these delicious butter braid pastries. Each butter braid is sold for $14.00 and HSHMC earns $6.00 for every one sold. The monies raised will go toward school activities; and our 12th graders can put their proceeds toward senior dues. All orders forms must be returned by on October 29th. Tomorrow, Tuesday October 16, we are holding a Poetry Slam in the lecture hall from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Please consider joining us to hear some amazing spoken words from our students.

This Thursday at 10:18 am, we will be participating in the Great Shake Out Earthquake drill, along with millions of people worldwide, as we practice how to drop, cover, and hold. This is the 10th Anniversary of the Great ShakeOut which began in southern California in 2008. Participating in the Great Shake Out better prepares all of us should be ever be faced with such an emergency.

If you have not already done so, please return the free or reduced lunch form by mail or fill out the on-line application located on our website by clicking on the "parent" tab and going to the free or reduced lunch link. As of last week, Students who were qualified last year and were rolled over to this year no longer qualify if we have not received a new application for this year. It is important that everyone fill out this form each year, even if you think you may not qualify, or your child does not take advantage of our lunch offerings. This form also helps determine eligibility for testing fee waivers and free college applications. If you need any help filling out the application, please contact the school and we will be happy to assist you.

Our first blood drive of the year is this Tuesday, October 9 from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. We hope you will consider coming by to donate.

Our 11th graders will be taking the PSAT this Wednesday.

This Thursday, October 11 at 5:30 pm is our College Knowledge Night. Come meet other families, enjoy dinner, and engage with our college support team who are working with your students. This is an opportunity to learn about the journey through the college application world. If you plan to attend, please RSVP through our website as dinner will be served.

This Thursday, October 4 at 5:30 pm, we hope you will join us for our parent workshop on how Access HSHMC Technology. Come learn how to easily access the school's technology to support your child's learning. Dinner will be served, so please RSVP on our website so we can plan accordingly.

Today is an important date for our seniors heading to college next year. The FAFSA – the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form to apply for financial aid for college opens today for the 2019-2020 school year. The FAFSA is the starting point for our seniors interested in federal student aid and it is mandatory to qualify for aid from most colleges. Your senior will need your help to complete this process. Please be sure to ask them about it.

Speaking of college, next Thursday, October 11 at 5:30 pm is our College Knowledge Night. Come meet other families, enjoy dinner, and engage with our college support team who are working with your students. This is an opportunity to learn about the journey through the college application world. If you plan to attend, please RSVP as dinner will be served.

HSHMC will be sponsoring a series of blood drives throughout the year. The first one is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 9 from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm. We hope you will consider donating.
